Panoramic for its beautiful and elegant streets along the bay, it was one of the favorite summer destinations of kings and aristocracy at the beginning of the 20th century. Free time in the port area, full of bars, ideal for enjoying the extraordinary "pintxos" (tastes of local specialities). Return to Bilbao for a guided tour of the historic center, Casco Viejo, and an explanation of the imposing building of the Guggenheim Museum, which has become the modern symbol of the city (entrance fees and internal visit not included). Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 03 - Bilbao / Santander / Santillana de Mar / Comillas / Oviedo
Breakfast. Departure for Santander, for centuries the commercial port of Castile which later became a summer residence for nobles at the beginning of the 20th century. For this reason, many elegant buildings were built, including the Palacio de la Magdalena facing the sea which is now used as an international summer university. Continue to Santillana del Mar, a town considered a national monument, where we will have free time to walk along the characteristic streets, characterized by stone houses decorated with wood, the typical balconies, balustrades and heraldic shields. The next stop on the itinerary will be Comillas, another beautiful city where the modernist palace 'Il Capriccio', designed by the brilliant Gaudi, is located. We will continue along the coast with a splendid view of the sea and the fishing village of S. Vicente di Barquera. Arrival in Oviedo. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 04 - Oviedo / Santiago de Compostela
Breakfast. In the morning, guided tour of the city, we will start with the two pre-Romanesque churches from the 9th century (Santa Maria del Naranco and San Miguel de Lillo), considered of enormous historical-artistic value for having been built when practically the entire peninsula was occupied by Muslims. It will follow with a visit to the splendid cathedral (from the outside). Free time for lunch. We suggest some 'Sidreria', or characteristic trattorias of the region where you can drink cider which will be served to you in a very particular way. Continuation to Santiago de Compostela. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 05 - Santiago de Compostela
Breakfast. Santiago de Compostela owes its name to the Apostle Santiago whose remains were found here in the 9th century. This discovery quickly made the place a point of pilgrimage first for the Iberian peninsula and subsequently for all of Europe. The whole city grew in the shadow of the Cathedral built on the site of the discovery. In the morning guided tour of the city which will end in the Cathedral in time to attend the popular 'pilgrim's mass' where the 'botafumeiro' (a gigantic incense burner), which has become the symbol of the city, is often seen 'flying'. Free afternoon to stroll along the streets of the historic center where every corner is a happy surprise. Dinner and overnight stay.
